Best Worm Farm for Indoor: Exaco UCsmall-G Great Urban Composter 4/5

front view

The best thing about this bin is that it's great for beginners who usually handle no more than organic waste from around the kitchen, at first. I've experienced some problems with the lid, which is actually pretty tight but it loosens up in time, so it's not actually a big deal.

Besides, this bin is perfect to keep under your sink or around the kitchen because of its nice design.

Do you know what the best part is, though? That this bin is super practical for getting liquid fertilizer in no time. And that's great if you are just starting because that worm tea can go directly to fertilize your plants and flowers. I really love the dispenser design, which makes it so suitable for indoor spaces.

What I Like

  • It comes in two different sizes and two colors: red or green.
  • Its design is cute and purposeful.
  • It's very practical to gather worm tea.

What I Don't Like

  • The lid is pressed to tight and might break easily.
  • Not very easy setup.
  • It may leak as a consequence of a complex architecture.

The URBAN Composter is actually a great unit to produce your own liquid fertilizer... and we love it! In a matter of weeks (they will depend on factors like: the amount of organic waste, the temperature and the ventilation), you'll be able to pick up your own worm fertilizer and pour it into your plants! You'll be saving the planet and making your garden more beautiful at the same time.

The brand obviously recommends the use of their own URBAN EM compost accelerator spray. But it's not mandatory, your vermicompost can grow perfectly well without it. Remember that it comes with very tight fitting lids for the sake of no odors or flies, but you should handle them carefully until they loosen up a little.

Best Outdoor Compost Bin: Compost Bin by GEOBIN 3/5

Well, this is another favorite because of its simple design and affordable price. If you can unpack a box, you can deal perfectly with the setup. The necessary keys are included for such purposes- As we said, it might be a little unstable, especially for outdoor space but this can be simply solved by anchoring it to the ground with a couple of steel garden stakes.

For the rest, it's a perfect choice. It's pretty affordable, practical, and easy to set up and you won't have to do much than stir your compost from time to time. Good air ventilation and the right temperature are almost guaranteed by the cool design of this bin. Simple but definitely practical.

To be completely honest, this is one of the easiest compost bins to be used ever because you practically need no help with the setup. It's actually very easy to put together with the keys that come included in the package. And it's really recommendable besides because when it comes to moving your mixture you can perfectly do it with zero difficulties.

What I Like

  • It's made from sustainable materials and it's durable.
  • It unpacks easily and it can compost straightforwardly.
  • It is cylindrical, which allows a perfect ventilation.

What I Don't Like

One more thing, this bin comes very handy when it comes to deal with your leaves back there in your yard. So, if you are looking for the a non-expensive, eco-friendly, easy to handle vermicomposting bin, you should probable consider this compost bin by Geobin.

Best Compost Bin for Small Spaces: VermiHut Plus 5-Tray Worm Compost Bin 2/5

fully ensambled bin

The VermiHut Plus worm bin is another great alternative to compost your organic waste from your kitchen and turn it into a rich garden fertilizer.

The category is best compost bin for small spaces, and the award goes tot his one, definitely. It’s very simple to use as you just have to fill a tray with worm bedding, red worms, and food scraps. As the worms do their work and migrate upwards, they leave rich castings behind. The VermiHut is a very good option for handling your household organic waste.

Most valuable features:

1. It's odorless. The worms will eat up any bacteria before your compost starts to smell. This is possible because of the unique design of this bin: a “V-Board” device built into the lid and a piece of coconut mat and the notoriously improved lid design will keep odors to the minimum.

2. Moisture control: the already mentioned improved lid design makes it possible to keep moisture under optimum conditions. When you are vermicomposting, the right humid environment is healthy for our buddies here.

What I Like

  • Fair price for a good product
  • It comes in two different colors: green and red
  • It's 100% sustainably fabricated.

What I Don't Like

  • It might not be very easy to assemble.
  • If you don't check up daily, moisture and temperature fo off easily.
  • Worms may try to escape as the conditions require a lot of attention.

3. Worm saving tray: this is actually one of my fav features about this bin. It comes built into the unit and it prevents worms and compost residuals from ending up in the liquid tray.

4. Set of ant-trappers: once again design provides practicality. Not many bins come with traps and if you are dealing with worms in indoor spaces, believe me when I say, you'll find this very precious.

It's also honest to say, however, that if you do not have much experience with vermicomposting this bin might not be the best choice. As it is best suitable for small spaces, the necessary conditions for your worms to be happy may be altered pretty easily and a little bit of experience is required to know that. So many trays might get you confused!

Best Worm Farms for Big Spaces: Worm Factory 360 Worm Composting Bin by The Squirm Firm 4/5

full worm factory on display

If you are just getting started with vermiculture and you want to do it right, this is definitely the bin for you. The Worm Factory 360 uses worms to recycle your kitchen garbage, paper waste, and cardboard into highly rich compost, and it is way much cleaner and more efficient than a backyard compost pile. You can upgrade your vermicast production up to ten times with a good bin, and this one does the work.

To start with, you just need to add a handful of worms and your organic material to the bottom tray. As the worms start to decompose the organic material, they will move upwards, leaving rich castings behind.

If you are constant with your inputs and outputs you can pick up rich, fresh compost once a month.

What I Like

  • It's easy to set up and use!
  • It's ideal for beginners.
  • The bonus is more than useful.

What I Don't Like

  • Not very affordable.
  • Not secured for rodents.
  • Not suitable for outdoor small spaces.

Besides the fact that you are paying a fair amount of money for a high-quality product, it's the extra bonus that makes this option really appealing. If you are just a starter, you probably don't know yet very much about how to feed your worms correctly or how to keep them healthy. Well, the infographic magnet "What Can Red Wigglers Eat?" is a handy reference if you just stick it to your refrigerator.

This magnet helps to make worm composting feel like an everyday activity. You'll be paying for saving time, and producing more vermicast but it will also buy you some peace of mind since you don't have to worry about wrongly feeding your worms ever again!

Best Budget: 4-Tray Worm Compost Kit by The Squirm Firm 3/5

 4-Tray Worm Compost

This is actually a pretty amazing worm farm. It can transform the organic waste from your kitchen into organic fertilizer for your garden, as virtually any vermicomposting bin, right? But they are some good aspects about this one.

First, it's easy to use! You just need to lay a bunch of compost worms onto a well-prepared bedding plus some food scraps and let the bin (and the worms) do the work! As the worms finish their task, they will move upward into the tray above, while leaving rich castings behind.

Second, this bin is compact and it doesn't take up much room, which makes it very suitable for your kitchen. Keep it under the sink, for example, to keep good management of your household waste.

What I Like

  • It's a good price for a quality product.
  • Extra tools for assembly are included.
  • The 4-layer system favors the good conditions.

What I Don't Like

  • Instructions are not very clear which makes the assembly a little hard.
  • It's not ideal for a lot of worms or compost material, but the size is indicated correctly.
  • The resulting liquid organic material looks impure. Not recommended as fertilizer.

description of the trays

This bin also features a reservoir at the bottom that captures "worm tea" — but as we stated this is not actually pure worm tea and we do not recommend pouring this into your plants or flowers because it might ruin them. Another not very good thing about this bin is that it's hard to assemble because the instructions are too much. For the rest, especially because it's a really good bin for 50 bucks, this is a good option if you are looking for something relatively small in size.

Best for Odor Control: Worm Cafe by Tumbleweed 3/5

front view

By far you should know already that having your own worm farm is one of the easiest and greatest ways to recycle your organic waste and thus, to keep it out of landfills.

The great thing about worm farms is that they are a constant source of organic fertilizer both in the form of vermicast and worm tea, which are both very good for your plants and flowers. That's why we are very happy to recommend this bin. Except for the fact that it might leak if you do not find the right position, the rest is great about it.

It's perfect for both indoor and outdoor vermicomposting and the design is pretty nice too.

What I Like

  • Well designed and practical
  • Durable
  • Easy to use and assemble!

What I Don't Like

  • It might leak if not correctly set.
  • The plastic trays may break easily, if not carefully handled.

Made from 100% Recycled Plastic, this bin is just perfect for the price you pay. The architecture behind this seems to work pretty well for our worm friends as they reproduce pretty rapidly and you will see vermicast falling onto the lower tray rather sooner than later. Another good thing is that, unlike most of its type, this bin by Tumbleweed has the perfect height so that you do not have to bend down too much to feed your worms or pick up your vermicast.

Last but not least, this bin is pretty easy to assemble and use. The design of the trays and the lid makes it pretty impossible for odors to come out... and that's why she is the winner of this category.

Best Tumbling Composter: Jora Composter Tumbler JK270 5/5

front view

The first thing to mention here, it's that we're reviewing a compost tumbler here, which works differently from a traditional compost bin. While the regular compost bins work with layers and trays- where worms start to move upwards, as compost falls in the lower trays- a compost tumbler has a much more complex system of two chambers.

And we are mentioning this because if you are just giving your first steps in vermicomposting maybe this is not the right product for you.

But if you are a little more experienced, you have enough room at home, (and you can afford it) this compost tumbler is definitely worth considering for a good number of reasons.

What I Like

  • You can compost large amounts.
  • Composting never stops due to its two-chamber design.
  • Rodent-proof design

What I Don't Like

  • Not very durable because it's metallic.
  • Rather hard to assemble
  • Not very affordable.

open bin at work

Alright, this is how the tumbler works: once one chamber is mostly full, it breaks down enough overnight to add another bucket the next day. That's correct, that's how fast the decomposing occurs ins a tumbler. By the time the second chamber fills the first chamber is already decomposed into black compost. another great thing about this tumbler is that the right temperature and moisture conditions are provided by its design. You see for yourself how the steam rolls out the vents constantly, even during cold days. That's really effective.

Another thing that makes this tumbler our favorite is that it's made from high-quality materials and everything fits perfectly. It is true that the whole system is not rapidly put together but the instructions are clear and easy to follow, you just need some patience.

Captura de Pantalla 2021-08-05 a la(s) 10.51.35

The readers will let you know very generally if the air and temperature conditions are right.
